Oversight Needed

In connection with my last post:

Looking at the facebook and other social media profiles
of our local law enforcement here in rural, Southwest
Georgia, it is painfully evident that not one of these
souls is in any position to be an 'officer of the peace.'

Certainly they aren't in a position to be holding people's

lives in their hands with ultimate authority and loaded
firearms.

The profiles I saw (and mind you, this is only what is
available to the public) were filled with racist commentary,
pro-Trump diatribes against liberals, violent rhetoric,
conspiracy theories, homophobia, religious extremism, and
many more disturbing ideas and imagery.
An actual post from local law enforcement officer's facebook page

We all know you can't separate those kinds of feelings
and positions from your working self, and in high-emotion
situations where people's true nature takes over...this is
a disastrous set-up.

There needs to be a watchdog group for keeping tabs
on those in law enforcement, jailers, security guards,
etc. and make certain they are fit for the job.
(We also have several firefighters with Klan connections/
involvement: The people who decide whether or not to save
the lives of citizens are probably important to observe, too.)

We need monitoring, documenting, and taking action against
the prejudicial and unfit behaviors and commentary of those
who are entrusted to keep us safe. Because just like mass
shooters and other terrorists who leave a trail of warning
signs prior to committing atrocities, cops can be seen 'going'
bad from a mile away.

If only someone were doing something about it...

Someone out there must be working on this, so if you are
and need assistance, let us know. And if you are one of
many groups/individuals currently doing this, let me
know so we can promote where people can find out more
about their watchmen.

We need to coordinate this information and make it
known far and wide. The Good Ol' Boys Club is in
need of being shut down. Time IS up.

Demanding responsible and humane policing
is not an unreasonable action.

The fact that we don't receive reasoned
and judicious treatment from those
sworn to protect us is the absurdity.

And the man in charge of the Justice
Department just publicly declared that
"The police are not the problem..."
with a straight face.

No, they're one significant aspect of the problem:
The allowances of their murderous activities
go to attitudes much higher up the food chain.

Our Supposed Role Models Are Failing Us

There can be no valid campaign against bullying
in America until the ultimate, empowered bullies in
law enforcement are held accountable for their crimes
and stopped from causing further harm.

No child will ever listen to a call to 'act more humanely'
or 'take responsibility' if the community members they
are told to honor and emulate are out of control and
beyond reproach.

Power Corrupts

Giving the absolute authority
of a badge and a gun
to a human being
reveals parts of their soul
perhaps unknown even to them.

Without sufficient instruction
and regulation, there is nothing
keeping that sleeping giant
from fully awakening.

To 'serve and protect' whom?

Every day across this nation and
around the world, police forces are
targeting regular citizens with excessive
force, dismissiveness, unwarranted brutality,
and unregulated anger.

These are not isolated incidents, but
rather the new norm. We know more and
more about the regularity of this
criminal behavior by those sworn to serve and
protect, but only because of social media.

Journalism has become a discarded
artifact. Even among those agencies
still doing some good work, law enforcement is
off limits (except when it comes to puff
pieces about rescuing kittens, or indoctrination
messages to keep up the notion of
'dutiful, stand-up civil servants who
are beyond reproach.')

That's what happens when all your outlets
are owned by the same folks whose
special interests are being protected
by the men and women behind the badges.

Being Visible

People often act as though I have no business even having
an opinion regarding police corruption. Of course, often those
are the militant pro-cop individuals who attend church, think
conservatively, eat their veggies, clean their plate, and do
'everything' they're told. And, most unremarkable, they tend
to be white-skinned folks.

But we'll get into indoctrination and privilege another time!

Why am I so involved and concerned? Well, in part, it's because
I'm an activist and I care about injustice and corruption and lies
wherever they occur. Having a system in place that wrongfully
destroys people's lives on a whim is a pretty serious matter that
I think should have everyone upset and involved.

But beyond that, it's personal.

I have experienced first-hand over the past 35 years,
an inordinate amount of harm from law enforcement individuals.
I don't mean that in the course of breaking a law someone hurt my
feelings, so jump that dismissive assault. I'm talking about being
harassed, intimidated, threatened, coerced, assaulted, falsely
arrested, and much more at the hands of law enforcement who
were simply criminal thugs not interested in doing the job they
signed up to do.

It's only natural that at least a small amount of the population
of cops would turn out to be 'bad apples.' But this is far deeper
than that. Much more than just a few 'isolated incidents,' as if \
the incidents apologists always refer to as 'isolated' makes them
less despicable.

I'll be sharing my multitude of personal stories here, in order
to illustrate the variance and depth of the problem. Let's just say
I'm lucky to be alive. And right now, in my small town I'm
living in, I am very much at fear for my well-being and life
due to the outrageous corruption and deviancy of local
law enforcement and their dislike of me.

Yes, I have reasons for my deep distaste and distrust, although
I would hope that all of us would be concerned about the current state
of things for no other reason than love of neighbor and country.
